What to expect
Photodynamic therapy combines light treatment with Levulan Kerastick, a photosensitizing medication. After the treatment area has been cleansed and prepared, Levulan is applied topically. Once the Levulan has soaked in, it is photo-activated by applying laser or other light energy. This only takes about ten minutes. You may experience some burning or stinging sensations, but it is well tolerated by most patients.

You can resume most daily activities, but you will need to completely avoid direct sunlight for at least 24 hours following photodynamic therapy.
