Brooklyn, NY specialist introduces breakthrough hybrid KeraLase™ treatment for hair loss

At Khrom Dermatology & Aesthetics we are not afraid to invest in the latest clinically proven, FDA-cleared and FDA-approved technologies to solve real problems for our patients. For individuals with hair loss or thinning locks, Dr. Tatiana Khrom is excited to announce the addition of KeraLase™ Treatment in Brooklyn, NY at her advanced specialty center. KeraLase™ is two, complementary types of treatments in one, a specialized laser system and proprietary products. Working in tandem, these technologies reveal more and thicker hair by revitalizing follicles through which growth occurs, increasing the diameter of each strand, and bolstering the number of hairs “per unit area.”

How does KeraFactor® work?

KeraFactor delivers key growth factors and proteins to the scalp in order to help promote healthier and fuller looking hair

KeraLase™ In-Office Therapy

If our providers determine you are a great candidate for KeraLase™, the treatment starts with the application of Lutronic LaseMD® laser energy. This unique laser delivery system is designed to optimize how the scalp absorbs the beneficial, complementary KeraFactor® system ingredients. The laser’s capabilities are important here because skin (as your body’s “protector”) naturally keeps invaders out. The LaseMD® prepares the scalp. So, the treatment site can adequately absorb nanoliposomes as a type of “pre-conditioning.”

KeraFactor® serum has proprietary biomimetic synthetic versions of growth factors and proteins which provide a multifaceted topical formulation. Nanoliposomes present a new technology, which encapsulates and delivers bioactive substances, such as pharmaceuticals and cosmetics. Both biocompatible and biodegradable, nanoliposomes aid in the performance of those ingredients designed to influence your body’s biology. They not only enhance these ingredients’ solubility and availability in the body, but nanoliposomes also reduce unwanted interactions with other molecules. Cell-specific targeting further assures optimum effectiveness of therapies like KeraLase™ and its KeraFactor® adjuncts, while minimizing the risk of adverse effects to healthy cells and tissues. The micro-channels created with the 1927nm wavelength of LaseMD have been shown to create 5 times higher absorption of nano-liposomes.

When in the hands of our highly trained providers, the LaseMD® part of the KeraLase™ treatment is:
  • Pain-FREE – No injections! No Burning!
  • Efficient – Completed in around 10 minutes
  • No downtime – Get back to the activities you love instantly
  • Fits well into busy lifestyles – A three-month treatment program is “typical”
  • Gets results – Continual improvement has been noted for 12 to 18 months
While every patient is different, many individuals enjoyed dramatic improvements in hair volume and thickness after around six treatment sessions, scheduled every two weeks, for 12 weeks.

Discover a new you.

KeraLase therapy for thinning hair

KeraFactor®: “Skin Care for Hair”

The “Kera” part of “KeraLase™” refers to the KeraFactor® line of proprietary products. Available only at doctors’ offices like your trusted skin specialist, Khrom Dermatology & Aesthetics, KeraFactor® targets known deficiencies and problems associated with poor scalp health. This stimulating solution is the product of six years of extensive research. The resulting KeraFactor® topical serum contains five growth factors and two skin proteins, each carefully selected to improve hair thickness. Present in powerful concentrations not available in other sources, this innovative KeraFactor® Peptide Complex stimulates weak or resting hair follicles, improving circulation and nutrients responsible for nourishing a thicker, longer, and healthier “crowning glory.”

When applied as directed with a specialized applicator every day, morning and night, the KFP Complex delivers growth factors that trigger enhanced scalp health, bolster the size of hair shafts, and increase the density of hairs in each area.

Additionally, when combined with KeraFactor® 2-1 Shampoo + Conditioner, the KeraFactor® topical serum exfoliates and stimulates the scalp and hair with combination conditioning agents and growth factors responsible for natural healing and regeneration at the cellular level. All it takes is a pea-sized drop, massaged into hair once daily, to begin to feel and see the transformation in hair quality.

Tips to get the most out of KeraFactor®

To reveal the thicker, healthier locks that are just waiting to surface, Khrom Dermatology & Aesthetics recommends that you take your hair care products and maintenance as seriously as you take your skin care products and regimen, or as seriously as you take your nutrition and fitness routine. Products like Kera Factor’s 2-1 “dual threat” shampoo-conditioner promote strength and fullness and are free of “nasties” like parabens. While an excellent start, we also suggest:
  • Brush your scalp in the shower to encourage enhanced scalp circulation.
  • First, wet the hair with warm water.
  • Vigorously run the brush through your hair, ensuring the bristles contact the scalp.
  • A pink-hued scalp is a good sign that this exercise is achieving a vital, circulatory boost.

Is KeraLase™ right for you?

KeraLase™ has transformed the crowns of men and women alike. If you do not have a history of skin cancers affecting the scalp, or active infections, we may be able to partner with you on hair restoration with KeraLase™ right away. Likewise, Dr. Khrom will assess the underlying cause and type of hair thinning or hair loss; the extensive studies that led to the development of this ground-breaking system found that most patients with thin hair and baldness are deficient in key growth factors. However, not all types of baldness are responsive to these treatments, especially those conditions that are rooted in underlying disease processes.

Hair transplant patients appreciate that KeraLase™ helps transplanted follicles flourish, as circulation and vascularization are improved. The existing hairs further thicken for a more even and natural appearance.

Celebrate more hair on your head, less strands on your brush! To determine how you can benefit from KeraLase™ treatment for hair loss, schedule a consultation with Dr. Khrom at the Brooklyn office. Call Khrom Dermatology & Aesthetics at 718-751-0674.

BEFORE AND AFTER

Frequently asked Questions

What is KeraFactor?

After 6 years of extensive research, KeraFactor was designed to address thinning hair with a specific selection of 5 bio-identical (synthetically made to replicate human growth factors) growth factors and 2 skin proteins. Each growth factor’s concentration is significantly increased and tailored for scalp revitalization. This proprietary and patent-pending formula is individually wrapped in a nano-liposome casing for a “skin-friendly” delivery. This customized approach answers those typical growth factor deficiencies causing hair loss and poor scalp health. The skin proteins assist in scalp circulation as well as hair health.

How does it work?

KeraFactor delivers large quantities of key growth factors and proteins into the scalp that lead to significant improvement in scalp health and vascularization – leading to hair rejuvenation.
Extensive studies led us to discover that most patients with thinning hair and baldness lack certain key growth factors. If these growth factors are delivered in the right depths and concentrations, with the appropriate bioavailability profile like KeraFactor, dramatic improvement can be accomplished.

Lutronic offers technology which prepares the scalp prior to administration of Kerafactor. The Lutronic LaseMD system creates a conduit into the upper dermis in a no downtime, 5-10 minute treatment with minimal discomfort. Studies have shown the LaseMD 1927nm has been shown to enhance skin absorption over 5 times.

Why should I add it to my facility?

According to the American Hair Loss Association, one half of the men over 50, and 40% of women over 50, start to experience hair thinning and loss. Even younger men and women in their 20s (25%) suffer hair loss, which has become a major concern due to their importance on social media apps and “selfies”.
The US hair loss market is a $1.74B market, and KeraFactor addresses 57% of the market with a treatment protocol that is in high demand, easy to perform, highly profitable, and delivers results. The Hair Loss market is one of the fastest growing areas in aesthetics with a 24% annual growth rate for the next 4 years (* Global Market Insights, August 2018).

What is the Treatment Protocol

The 6 treatment protocol is easy to follow performing 1 treatment every 2 weeks for 12 weeks.
Serum is applied following the energy application and the patient is sent home with a KeraFactor product to be used in the morning and evening.

What is the Energy Based System You Are Referring To? LaseMD

LaseMD is a 1927nm thulium laser that quickly and painlessly delivers energy to the scalp and upper dermis in a manner that slightly dries the scalp and creates microchannels which has shown to increase skin absorption over 5 times.
As a proven skin rejuvenation laser, LaseMD is an excellent choice as the laser only penetrates approximately 200 microns in a non-ablative manner (no bleeding or seeping).

Why use LaseMD?

One of the key functions of the skin is to protect the interior of the body from toxins, injury, etc.
While the nanoliposomes that hold the growth factors are quite small, the skin resists the penetration of the product. The Lutronic energy based technology (LaseMD) is optimized to prepare the skin for the KeraFactor serum and enable it to penetrate far more readily than with the skin intact.
One study showed that the LaseMD facilitates 5.5 times more skin absorption than without.

Difference between Serum and Take Home Product?

KeraFactor serum and take home product use similar bio-identical growth factors. The serum is high potency technology that is used following the application of the energy from the LaseMD.
The KeraFactor take home product is a lower concentration of growth factors, where the patient applies it on the scalp in the morning and evening between office treatments.

What should patients expect?

While everyone is different, patients can expect to start seeing improvement in scalp health, increase in hair shaft size, and a reduction of the appearance of thin hair by the end of the protocol. This assumes the patient has followed the treatment protocol as published. We cannot guarantee a response for ALL patients.

Who is NOT a candidate?

Patients who currently have or have been diagnosed with skin cancer should not use KeraFactor.
Patients with an active infection should not participate in the KeraFactor be treated with KeraFactor Any patient who experiences an allergic reaction to Kerafactor should stop using KeraFactor immediately and be examined by a dermatologist.
Patients with scarring alopecia, alopecia areata, frontal fibrosing alopecia, lichen planopilaris, central centrifugal scarring alopecia. These forms of hair loss have not been tested and have underlying disease processes which may not be amenable to the treatments.

What happens when/if a patient stops therapy (does this require maintenance)?

There have been patients who have maintained their results even after 18 months of stopping the use of KeraFactor. Once patients finish the protocol, they should continue using the take home to maintain the effect that has taken place.
We do encourage patients to return to their KeraFactor provider on occasion to examine the scalp and whether a retreatment is warranted.

Will it look natural?

As KeraFactor is a bio-identical hormone therapy, patients who respond will experience a natural progression in improvement and should look quite natural.

What About Hair Transplant Patients?

Hair transplant patients can gain tremendously from the KeraFactor program as it helps the transplanted follicles to thrive, as microcirculation is improved by the Kerafactor. In addition, the
existing hair remaining on the scalp will start to thicken as well, giving a more even, natural appearance

How does KeraFactor differ from using PRP?

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) is a painful 45-minute procedure where blood is drawn from the patient, then spun in a centrifuge to increase the patient’s platelets, and then applied or injected into the scalp. Results are inconsistent. Only the growth factors available in the patient’s own blood will be released.
If a patient is highly deficient in a growth factor(s) needed for hair health, then the PRP procedure may not be effective. Additionally, one of the common growth factors found in blood, TGF b1, may block the transition of hair follicles into the anagen (new growth) phase.

PRP with non-RF Microneedling:

Applied topically after non-RF microneedling, PRP is very ineffective since very little of the PRP solution gets absorbed. Studies have shown that immediately after the microneedles were withdrawn from the skin, the “holes” without coagulation close and osmotic pressure pushes any cosmeceutical or solution out of the wounds In contrast to PRP, KeraFactor products include a proprietary formula with high concentrations of bio-identical growth factors and skin proteins specifically customized for people with thinning hair.

a. KeraFactor researchers not only had 50 different growth factors to choose from, but any growth factors that negatively impact hair growth (e.g., TGF b1) were excluded. Each of the selected growth factors were individually wrapped in nano-liposomes to increase skin absorption. The concentration of each nano-liposome was then increased to the desired concentration to address typical growth factor deficiencies associated with thinning hair.
b. The customization of growth factors differs from the PRP (and stem cell therapies) which start with only those growth factors existing in the patient’s blood and may not provide hair growth factors for optimally addressing thinning hair.
c. Treating the scalp with a LaseMD system prior to application of the KeraFactor serum further improves skin absorption.
