Brooklyn, NY Dermatologist discusses Radiesse Fillers and Aftercare Tips

Radiesse is a dermal filler that instantly erases wrinkles and improve facial contours. The calcium-based gel plumps the skin for immediate results while also stimulating collagen for long-lasting results. At Khrom Dermatology & Aesthetics in Brooklyn, NY, our patients love the natural boost in volume from Radiesse and how the results can last for a year or even more. Below, we’ll look at the Radiesse procedure and important aftercare tips following your injections.

Where can Radiesse be used?

Radiesse is a versatile filler that can be used to address a range of common aging concerns. The most common include:

  • Smile Lines – the lines that run from the corners of the mouth to the nose.
  • Marionette Lines – the lines that run out and down from the corners of the mouth.
  • Pre-Jowls – the area of sagging skin on each side of the chin.
  • Chin Wrinkles – horizontal lines on the chin.

Off Label Uses for Radiesse

In addition to the treatments mentioned above, Radiesse can also be effective at treating acne scarring. Acne scars, particularly those on the face can be embarrassing and dramatically impact quality of life. When treating acne scars, we start with a procedure called subcision, which breaks up the scar tissue. We simultaneously carefully inject dilute Radiesse into the skin underneath the scars to lift them up and improve their appearance.

Radiesse is also effective at boosting collagen production. Collagen is a vital skin protein that helps the skin look and feel smooth. Radiesse stimulates the growth of the body’s natural collagen to reveal smoother skin.

The Benefits of Radiesse

There are many advantages to using Radiesse dermal fillers from Khrom Dermatology & Aesthetics in Brooklyn, NY, the biggest being that the product immediately gets to work restoring lost volume for near-instant results. In addition, it begins to stimulate your body’s natural production of collagen for results that are both immediate and long-lasting. Another thing patients love about Radiesse is that the gel is absorbed naturally by the body over time, leaving only your own collagen behind.

Preparing for Radiesse Treatment

If you are on an aspirin regimen or taking any non-steroidal anti-inflammatories, they should be stopped in the days prior to your injections as they can thin your blood and increase the risk of bruising. Arnica tablets can be taken. This homeopathic medicine has proven to be an effective natural remedy for bruising or swelling.

It’s also important to stay hydrated in the days leading up to your injections. When our bodies are dehydrated, they store extra water, which can increase swelling. By staying hydrated, you can minimize swelling so you can see results much more quickly.

Aftercare Tips following Radiesse Treatment

There is very little that you must do following dermal filler injections. It’s a good idea to avoid strenuous exercise or excessive alcohol consumption to allow your body time to heal. It’s also important to avoid exposing the injection sites to excessive heat. Take caution by avoiding sunbathing, saunas, waxing, hot tubs, and hot showers.

You can wash the treated areas normally and use makeup to cover any bruising or swelling. Sunscreen can also be worn over the injection areas. If you do experience swelling, ice packs can be applied intermittently. For pain, take acetaminophen rather than NSAIDs as they can increase bruising. Radiesse should smooth out easily in the face, however if you do notice a bump, you can gently massage it to help your body incorporate it more evenly.

If you have any specific concerns after your Radiesse treatment, feel free to call the office anytime.
